A small change of pace here guys. Not sure how to word this so let’s just dive right in, shall we?
I said a while back that this was a “Salt Blog”. I was later told that a more fitting term was ‘Vent’. Both felt interchangeable but I guess my understanding was that a Salt blog was for you to express a distaste for that thing you really hate.
While a Vent blog was a way to purge yourself of negative emotions.
With careful consideration, I think I can safely say it’s both. And while having elements of a help blog, (My occasional posting on abusive behaviors and how to deal with them), I cannot safely say that this is a help blog. Officially anyway. Unofficially, I still hope to post information others find useful. At least in ways, so they can spot the red flags in their lives that I missed in mines. (Then go find real help because GOD what am I even doing here? How am I alive?)
Saying this, this blog is not purely a vent/salt blog. It is first and foremost a character blog.
Angelhair is a real character you can interact with.
He has a story. He has a path. He has a voice.
And if he makes you uncomfortable, that’s the point kiddo.
You’re not supposed to be comfortable with his behaviors. You’re not supposed to like him. Villians aren’t always hulking figures with cute ascetics with no-risk storytelling.
Sometimes they make you take a good hard look at yourself. Every person has their flaws, but that doesn’t mean you’re above self-improvement. No one is. I’m certainly not.
Angel’s greatest flaw is that he thinks this. He thinks he already the perfect end product. He mistakes ‘guilt’ or any negative emotions as just pure anxiety that can be stomped down. He keeps himself in a toxic little bubble where he’s always right and everyone else is just out to get him.
I made this blog because I was full of ugly feelings. I wasn’t lying when I said writing this muse was cathartic. Because oh hell, is it ever that.
To my father that rewrites history. To strangers willing to throw you under the bus for their own self-gain. To so-called friends that use use use useonly to trash you once you have nothing left to give. To stone steppers to popularity. To users and the abusers. Yeah. The salt is mined from somewhere.
And I’m tired. So tired. And I’m as angry as I am tired.
Anyways.
The blog isn’t going anywhere.
Expect a large tone shift in the near future. I need to sleep so the IC posts will have to wait for tomorrow morning.
just a heads up, guys. the tumblr staff is at it again. they’re going through and not only tagging blogs as explicit with no way for you to get it changed without removing whatever it was they decided was explicit on your blog in the first place before you PETITION them to change it, but they’re also turning safe mode on for everyone. basically they’re censuring blogs for their content and then making it so others can’t see the content they have chosen to be censured. rather than, you know, allowing us to self-police, which has been working for years, long before they gave us even a basic tool for filtering tags.
so if you start seeing blogs with blurred out icons or safe mode posts, you know it’s your turn to go turn safe mode back off.
This matters a lot. The previous fights for net neutrality were won in part with the support of scrappy online companies like Tumblr, whose CEO, staff and users worked together to send a strong message to Congress and the FCC about the importance of a neutral internet, free from ISPs who slow down your connections to services unless they pay bribes for “premium” carriage.
With Trump’s FCC set to slay Net Neutality, the internet is once again planning a day of coordinated action: on July 12, sites across the net will send their users to the FCC and Congress to demand that ISPs be held to a public service standard befitting the trillions of dollars in public subsidies they receive every year in the form of access to rights of way through our cities and between them.
However, Tumblr is not among the companies presently slated to participate, and sources within the company told The Verge that the company and its CEO, David Karp (once a staunch Net Neutrality campaigner) have been given orders to sit this one out.
This btw – is why if you have fic on this site, you should probably work on copying it over to Ao3 now. Because the nature of Tumblr is likely to change with the new ownership… remember strikethru and prepare.
Heyyy everyone Have you been backing up the stuff you have only posted on tumblr? Because you should Gentle reminder Tumblr does not count as backup
This. Start backing your shit up. Having lived through a few seismic internet shakeups, I can tell you right now, these tremors feel awfully fucking familiar. Just… bigger.
(Not just your content. Figure out a way to keep in touch with the people you want to keep talking to if all your social media hangouts fall into the ocean. Protip: IRC is the indestructible cockroach of online chat platforms and will probably outlive all of us.)
Just heard today that the seeds do pose a risk for spreading invasive and even some banned plant species through certain states. That means if your region has a ban on certain wild flower species, Cheerios’ packets may contain them. Many conservation groups are worried well intentioned but uninformed people will create a problem that effects the native species of their areas by scattering these seeds without knowing the what effect a species will have.
From what I’ve read Forgot-Me-Not is on the prohibited plant list of Massachusetts. And you’re actually supposed to plant wild flower species that are only naturally native to your state.
So if you can recognize the seeds you get, remove the ones that are considered invasive for your region. I guess you could also plant indoors and wait to see what you get, and plant outside what is native. Or don’t plant the packets at all, read up on your native wild flowers and go get their seeds from another source.
Xerces Society also lists approved places where you can purchase those native seeds and plants. Seriously! Just pick your region off of this map. You’ll find growers for your local species there, as well as more detailed information about what species your area is home to, and how to help your region’s native pollinators the most. Basically Xerces Society is the best resource ever if you’re new to native gardening. My mom is transitioning all of her perennials to natives, so we’ve been consulting their site a lot!
Admittedly, some of our plants were not purchased, but rather rescued from roadsides where they’d just be mowed down on account of being ‘weeds’, but nevertheless the source lists are handy for plants you can’t dig up a few blocks over. That’s one great thing about native gardens – they sure do cost less.
and learn to recognize ‘polite’ responses of letting someone down, please. If someone is interested in what you have to offer, they’ll let you know from the start. There is no ‘press the chase’ with a stranger over text so if they seem vague or unintersted, that usually means ‘plz let’s talk friendly only’ or simply ‘go away.’
And to add, the above applies even if it’s “not IC” for your character.
It doesn’t matter if you have a gross lech of a character who doesn’t give a shit about whether anyone around them approves, because those characters also need to operate on OOC consent.
I say that as someone who HAS a gross lech of a character and, if someone lets me know OOC that they’re uncomfortable by the stuff he does, I stop and have him go elsewhere or tone it down. Even before that, even if it’d be technically IC for him to, say, slap some stranger on the ass and make a lewd comment about their body, I still don’t do that without talking to the other player OOC first because I don’t know how the other player would feel about that OOC and for ANY kind of sexual behavior, it requires OOC consent before you start with the IC stuff.
If you try to use, “But, it’s IC for my character to do that!” I have some bad news about how shitty your OOC personality is…
Please for the love of all that is holy DO NOT USE THIS TO PERSONALIZE YOUR TUMBLR. It’s covered in adware and every single time I click onto someone’s tumblr who has it I have to run my spybot and then it catches a bunch of stuff and in one case one of these addresses downloaded an adware program onto my computer that prevented me from hitting back on my browser and had loud popup ads now and then and annoying blue hyperlinks everywhere. It took several hours of my time to remove the darn thing from my computer completely.
“But I can have a cool personalized name with .co .vu!” Yeah, you know why? Because most people don’t use it so names aren’t taken. Why?
Because it’s covered in adware and spyware.
If you respect your followers AT ALL do not use this. Please.
This is actually a really fascinating scam.
So, you know how how “co.[country abbreviation]” is commonly used to signify that a site is from some country? For example, “amazon.co.jp” is the Japanese version of Amazon dot com.
The people selling “co.vu” sites want you to think that that’s what’s going on–that you’re getting nice good web addresses from Vanuatu.
But what’s actually happening is that they publish your sites as a subdomain of a site called “co” that is in Vanuatu.
In other words:
In the url “http://amielleon.tumblr.com”, “amielleon” is the subdomain, “tumblr” is the actual site, and “com” tells me that it’s a commercial site and probably from America.
In the url “http://mytrashyotp.co.vu”, “mytrashyotp” is the subdomain, “co” is the actual site, and “vu” indicates it’s from Vanuatu. But they WANT you to think that “mytrashyotp” is the site, and “co.vu” indicates that it’s a commercial site from Vanuatu.
What are they getting out of this? The ability to throw shit on top of your blog (like adware) and also leech off your content for search engine rankings.
(Source: I based this post off of this blog post which is somewhat more technical in nature.)
Guys this is actually true ;;; it’s been happening to me quite a lot and I’ve had so many pop ups and ads everywhere. I get programs that I’ve never installed plus it can cause real harm to your PC. I seriously suggest to not use a co.vu domain for the sake of your mutuals & followers !!!
